Stoolball Only one match this week away at Icklesham. The mixed team started badly with three wickets falling in the first over and when another two went in the third over we were on 20-5 but a stand of 24 between Melinda Mackay (15) and Richard Apps (19) steadied the innings but two more wickets fell in the seventh and only an unbeaten last wicket partnership of 23 by Diane Kitson (14n.o.) and Lisa Fifield (8 n.o.) gave us 89 to bowl at against the hosts. An opening partnership of 25 between Toby(15) and Raisi (13) was broken when Ian Kitson held onto a catch from Sophie Turner’(1-13) bowling but then Kevin(36) and Julie(21) took the hosts to victory. We did not give up and Keith Apps (2-14) bowled well. The highlight of the match was Hannah, from Icklesham, who fielded for both sides but when she fielded for us she took two catches, one being her father, and when she bowled she ran out her mother and took a wicket with the final ball aided by a catch from Richard to end a very entertaining and friendly match. The Ladies are at home to Catsfield on Tuesday 20th while the mixed are at home to Ashburnham on Thursday 22nd with both matches starting at 6.45p.m. A note for your diary our Ladies Tournament is on Sunday 1st September starting at 10.30a.m. and then to bring the season to a close our annual presentation of trophies will be on Sunday 22nd September at the Cricket Ground starting at 1p.m. which will include a fun match and barbecue so why not come along and join in the fun.
