Tomorrow Saturday July 6 is the Robertsbridge Children’s Summer Fete being held at Salehurst Primary School. It opens at 12noon and is on until 3pm. There will be some fantastic stalls, a great raffle, entertainment, a barbecue, a licensed bar, strawberries and cream and a smoothie making bicycle. Plenty to do, eat and drink with a very special visit from Dr Who’s Tardis and a Dalek. What more could you want from a local summer event, even the weather (at the time of writing) is forecast to be good. So why not go along have lunch and support your local Primary School and Robertsbridge Children’s Service.

Another date for your diary is the ever-popular Barn Dance that the SSA is putting on Saturday July 20; more ticket information will be available soon.

In the morning tomorrow 6th July is the monthly market at Robertsbridge Hall from 10am – 12 noon. You can buy fresh bread, cakes, eggs, cheeses, vegetables and even pet food. There are handy craft stalls and much more. When you have shopped you can then relax for a chat and a coffee with your friends. Or come to make new friends if you have not been before. This is one of the events that the Robertsbridge Community Association puts on throughout the year. All of the work done is by volunteers. The AGM was held on 27th June and was sadly not very well attended. Only 1 person from the public went other than the members. To keep this well needed facility up and running needs time and effort and new thoughts and ideas would be helpful.

Next Saturday, July 13, between 1pm – 8pm the Robertsbridge Twinning Association is holding the annual boules and barbecue event at Robertsbridge Hall and grounds. This year it is being combined with a Fun Day for the children. A great day out for all the family, with entrance at just £5 per person with the under-sixes free.

As well as burgers (plus all the trimmings) and the boules competition there will be a live band. The Exiles are a great band and have played on a couple of occasions for the Twinning. There is also a raffle, children’s games and activities and a well-stocked beer and wine bar with soft drinks also available, this is the recipe for loads of fun.

On Sunday July 14 there is an event bringing Christians Together in Robertsbridge. This is being held at Robertsbridge Hall between 2pm – 5pm, with hopefully good weather for it to be outside. Take a picnic and join in if you would like to, this event is making links between St Mary’s Salehurst, the United Reformed Church and Darvell Community. This is a new venture and everyone is welcome.

Some of the new courses are photography- this is new with a very experienced tutor, horticulture/gardening, watercolours and mixed media, quilt as you go, table runners, family history workshops for beginners and more. Well worth a look at.

Football: Robertsbridge United Football Club are training for the 2013/14 season on Wednesday evenings at the Recreation Ground from 6.30pm. Stoolball: We played a Mixed match at Brightling last Tuesday and we were put into bat. JJ Boass(21) and Sarah Clark(20) put on an opening partnership of 34 before JJ got caught and when Ben Moss(1) got caught we were on 36-2 but Ian Kitson(21) put on 15 with Sarah before she was bowled. This bought Penny Clark(18n.o.) to the crease and she shared a partnership of 31 before Ian was run out. Skipper Richard Apps(11n.o.) joined Penny to complete the 11 overs and post a modest score of 110-4. The hosts lost their first wicket in the second over when Melinda Mackay held onto a catch from Richard’ bowling and a run out in the following ball left the hosts on 17-2 but a third wicket partnership of 38 between Mike(58 retired) and Sarah(17) steadied the innings. Sarah was caught by Sarah Clark from Melinda’ bowling which bought Sandra(19n.o.) to the crease to stear the hosts home but not before Alan Apps claimed a wicket aided by a catch from Ian as the hosts won by 19 runs. The Mixed team played at Staplecross Tournament on Sunday and in our first match we played Civil Service who batted first and reached 107 of the allotted five overs but despite an excellent 74 not out by Phil Green we fell nine runs short. Our next match was against Brightling and again Phil stood firm to score 65 not out in our total of 83 but Brightling won by 15 runs. We played the hosts Staplecross next and again an unbeaten 48 by Phil got us to a meagre 69 which was not enough as we lost by 61 runs. In our final match we played Pett who scored 57 mainly because of our fielding and bowling with wickets for Ian Kitson(2-6), JJ Boast(2-15) and Kayley Sherwood(1-7) while there were catches for Ian(2) and JJ(1). In reply an opening partnership of 57 between Phil(48) and Mel Mackay(20n.o.) gave us a 26 run victory. At the presentation Ian picked up the trophy for the most wickets. This Sunday is Icklesham Ladies Tournament starting at 11am while on Tuesday 9th the Mixed are away to Catsfield and on Thursday 11th the Ladies are away to Brightling with both games starting at 7pm.
