Stoolball: We played our mixed home match on Thursday against Icklesham. Losing the toss we batted first and lost opener Melinda Mackay with the score on 18 but a second wicket partnership of 38 between Keith Marden(51) and Angela Marden(14) took us to 56. We lost two wickets in two balls but a fourh wicket partnership of 27 between Bev Green(26 not out) and Keith got us to 83 when Keith was run out. Wickets tumbled and at 108-8 we were on the back foot but Alan Apps(20 not out) and Bev saw us finish our 12 overs on 142-8. The visitors lost an early wicket when Bev held onto a catch from Kayley Sherwood’ bowling and when Richard Ahsam took a catch from Bev’ bowling the visitors were on 24-2. The fourth over saw Alan hold onto a catch from Ben Moss’ bowling, two balls later Ben took a caught and bowled while he claimed his third victim helped by a catch from Angela. At 36-5 the visitors were on the ropes but an excellent partnership of 79 between Kevin(59) and Donna(25) with some poor fielding from us gave the visitors a chance and when Kevin was caught by Bev from Diane Kitson’ bowling it was 115-6 but the match was lost before consolation wickets for Angela and Alan saw the visitors finish on 157 for a 15 run victory. Wicket takers were Ben(3-8), Bev(1-12), Kayley(1-13), Diane(1-14), Alan(1-14) and Angela(1-22). At our Mixed Tournament on Sunday we played Staplecross first and restricted them to just 20 with wickets for Di Kitson and Richard Apps aided by catches from Phil Green and Josh Lewis. In reply we scored 49 with Josh top scoring with 27 not out. Next was Icklesham who batted first and scored 39 while in reply we scored 52 with Phil 32 not out and Di 18 not out. Our third match was against Brightling who reached 59 while we only scored 34 with Richard top scoring with 19. We needed to beat Crowhurst by 21 runs in our final match to reach the final but alas our batting let us down only reaching 35 and in reply Crowhurst hit 44. The final was played between Brightling and Catsfield in which Catsfield won by 23 runs.
