Stoolball: At last fine weather has arrived which seemed to inspire both teams to victory for the first time this season with the Ladies beating Icklesham at home on Tuesday and the Mixed winning at Pett on Wednesday. Icklesham batted first and an opening partnership of 61 was broken when Di Kitson took a catch off of JJ Boast’(1-13) bowling. Bev Green (1-8) took the next wicket helped by a catch from Darryl Collins and when Kayley Sherwood (1-11) claimed the next wicket with a catch the visitors were on 83-3. Izzy Le Pla (1-5) struck in the 8th over and then Melinda Mackay (2-6), helped by a catch from Bev, saw the visitors finish their 12 overs on 134-6. We lost opener Sarah Clark(4) on the second ball but a partnership of 44 between Mel (25) and Darryl(34) steadied the ship and then a fourth wicket partnership of 42 between Penny Clark (25) and Izzy (26) moved the score onto 116 before we ended our innings on 147-5 to win by 13 runs. Pett batted first on Thursday and were 10-3 after the first over from Angela Marden (2-14) with two run out’s and a catch from Di but they rallied a bit before Ben Moss(1-8) took the next wicket helped by a catch from Alan Apps. Di claimed the next wicket and when Sophie Turner took a catch off of Ian Kitson’(1-15) bowling Pett were on 65-6. Angela claimed her second victim in the 7th over and then skipper Richard Apps held onto a catch from Alan’ (1-4) bowling while Angela took two catches from Di’ bowling to finish with impressive figures of 3-9 as the hosts were bowled out for 98. We started badly struggling on 12-2 before Richard(47 retired) took the game to Pett single handed until we had passed their score before retiring to leave Ian(10 not out) and JJ (16 not out) to see us home by 18 runs. Once again our inexperienced side failed to win a game at Hooe Ladies Tournament but topping the runs for the Bridge was Mel with 105, leading wicket taker was Sophie with 3 and most catches was JJ with 3. This Sunday the Mixed are at Brightling Tournament 10.30a.m. at Netherfield while on Thursday 20th the Mixed are at home to Icklesham starting at 7p.m. A date for your diary is our Mixed Tournament will be on Sunday 23rd June starting at 10.30a.m. at the Cricket Ground.

Fishing: Just 2 days to go before the season starts so make sure you have your Rother Fisheries Annual Tickets which are available at £3.25 each from Alan Apps 01580-880877 and don’t forget to get your Rod Licence either online or from the Post Office.
