The Robertsbridge Bonfire Society would like to thank everyone that supported the Auction of Promises last Friday evening. Members, non-members, people that donated time, and items, and those that bought, especially those that organised it and helped on the night, especially Ross Mercer and Neil Shuttleworth who worked the room really hard to raise approximately £3,000 for the bonfire event in November.

Tomorrow Saturday June 1 is Saturday Village Market at Robertsbridge Hall. This is between 10am and 12noon. You can buy fresh bread, cakes, vegetables, cheeses and much more. There is a pet food stall, many interesting handy craft stalls. Also why not arrange to catch up with friends and have a chat and coffee after buying all your goodies?

You may have noticed when driving through neighbouring villages that the residents are doing their own speed watch checks. One of the priorities that residents of Roberts bridge and Salehurst have brought up is speeding through the village. So a team of volunteers is being sought after to run a Speedwatch in Robertsbridge. Training will be given and the equipment will be loaned free of charge through a booking system that is shared with villages in the area. If you are wanting to volunteer for this then please contact Tina Grevett on either 101 extension 565261 or by mobile on 07810656247 o0r [email protected]

The other issue that needs dealing with in the area is dog fouling. The children have drawn and put up posters in the village and surrounding areas. It is still an offence to let your dog foul and leave it. In the next few weeks Tina and a member of Rother District Council will be doing an impromptu visit around the area to check out this problem and Fixed Penalty Notices can be issued if necessary. The cost of this is £75.

STOOLBALL: The Ladies played at home Pett last Tuesday with the visitors batting first. Pett got off to a good a start with Nicky(37) and Sophie(37) putting on 61 before Nicky was caught by JJ Boast of the bowling of Di Kitson(1-21). Sophie was run out soon after before Anya(18n.o.) and Janet(27n.o.) saw the visitors finish their 11 overs on 132-2. In reply we lost two wickets in the first over and by the 5th over we were 33-5 but a partnership of 52 between Boast(41n.o.) and Abigail Fifield(20n.o.) took us to a final score of 93-5. Our Mixed match at Staplecross on Thursday started in damp and thundery conditions but an opening partnership of 33 between Phil Green(33) and Penny Clark(10) gave us a modest start but silly run out’s caused a collapse and only Mel Mackay(16) and Ian Kitson(14) managed to reach double figures as we finished our allotted 10 overs on 107-7. The hosts openers found our bowling easy to deal with as Carolyn(47 n.o.) and Adrian(21) put on 53 before Adrian was bowled by Sophie Turner(1-10) and 7 runs later Alan Green(1-15) claimed the next wicket helped by a catch from his son Phil but Jonathan(23n.o.) and Carolyn saw the hosts win by 7 runs. On Tuesday 4th the Ladies are at home to Icklesham while on Thursday6th the Mixed are away to Pett with both matches starting at 7p.m.
