Stoolball: The mixed team played at Icklesham on Tuesday with the hosts batting first an opening partnership of 88 between Tristan[82] and Karen[46] gave them a good start to build a high score. Skipper Phil Green broke the partnership helped by a catch from Dave Neill and then some good fielding resulted in a run out with the hosts on 121-2. The last over saw Sophie Turner claim a wicket with the help of a catch from Alan Apps and a final run out on the last ball saw the hosts finish on 170-4. Our reply started badly with openers Phil[15] and Melinda Mackay[4] both run out and when Adele Green[4] was caught we were on 28-3. Claire Hatter[5] and Josh Lewis[11] wnet in the 5th over as well as Ben Moss[5] we were struggling at 50-6 but 7th wicket partnership of 48 between Sophie Turner[16] and Dave[48 not out] restored some hope but when Emma Turner[0] was run out, Di Kitson[5] and finally Alan[5 not out] saw us lose by 43 runs. We played at Brightling on Thursday with the hosts batting first they lost their first wicket on 3 when Alan Apps held onto a catch from Ian Kitson’s bowling but from then on it was the Pete[60 retired] who got the hosts to 119 aided by Sophie[15] Jo[23 not out] and Frazer[10]. Again we lost both openers in the first over with Ian[2] and Melinda[1] but a 3rd wicket partnership of 36 between debutant Adam Neill[20] and Sophie[12] gave us momentum but when Dave[1] and Adam departed in the 5th over it was left to Josh Lewis[31] to push the score along aided by Hayley Mackay[3], Di[7], Ben Moss[11 not out] and Emma[2 not out] but we fell 9 runs short of victory. The mixed team played at Crowhurst Tournament last Sunday and won two of their th ree group matches losing the last by just 1 run however they reached the final against Civil Service who batted first and scored 96 and in the run chase a 2nd wicket partnership of 60 between Phil Green[67 not out] and Melinda Mackay[19] got us to within 1 run of victory.
