Considering how bad the weather has been recently it was reasonably good last Saturday for the Children’s Fete at Salehurst School. There have been two big events for the SSA in the past month one was the Barn Dance in June with over 100 people attending, all had a great time. The Fete followed this where everyone enjoyed a range of activities. All were well entertained by local organisation 1066 Falconry and local Acrobatic Troop Acromax. Early indications show that an amazing £4000.00 was raised and will be split equally between Salehurst School and Robertsbridge Children’s Services.

There are many people to thank for their help and support and donations. Without this the events cannot happen. Thanks to the following, A Touch of Lavender, Adrian Spinks Photography, Blackberry Farm, Blackstock Farm Co. Busters, Caravan Tech, Carr Taylor Vineyards, Chaplin’s Hair Stylist, Charlie’s Home Kids Cuts, Chelsea, FC. Clair Jeffrey, David Hoad Photography, Digger Land, Eastbourne Theatres, EO Culverwells, Feathers Wild Bird Care, Great Dixter, Harvey’s of Lewes, Johns Cross Camping Centre, Judges Bakery, Kew at Wakehurst, Leeds Castle Foundation, Lipsticks and Lashes, Made with Love, Manic Monsters, Martin Brockman, Merriments Garden Centre, Michelham Priory, Minor Mania, Nymans, Orchard Farm Shop, Paradise Park, Pashley Manor, Sean Swim School, Southampton Football Club, PGL Travel, Stan Rosenthal, Portmeiron Potteries, Rush Witt and Wilson, Tenterden Leisure Centre, Tesco, 1066 Café, Brighton Centre, The Curlew, The Floral Boutique, The George Inn, One Stop, The Ostrich, Powder Mills, Robertsbridge Club, The Salehurst Halt, Sedlescombe Vineyard, Seven Stars, Sussex Cake Co. The Village Stores, Weald Smokery, White Dog Inn, The White Horse, White Rock Theatre, Top Hat on Stage, Wear`M`Out Ltd. Wendy Wares, Wilderness Wood, Wishbarn Antiques, Zindigo Photography, The Darvell Community and Jo Rainsbury and Clair Heap.

It is now worth reflecting on the fact that in this school year the SSA have provided nearly £6000.00 in extra funding for equipment for the children. This is only possible by the very few people that give their time to organise events with considerable effort and would be quite happy to see new faces to help them out next year. If you are interested in joining the SSA please contact the school and they will point you in the right direction, similarly with Robertsbridge Children’s Services who are always looking for willing volunteers who would like to get more involved please contact Tracey or Amanda in the office. Many hands make light work and the children of our village benefit from any amount of time that you can give. Amazingly enough the summer holidays begin this week so lets hope some summer weather accompanies them. Stay safe and have a good break.

Charlie Beeden has entered Trailwalker 2012, he will be walking 62 miles non-stop in 30 hours to raise £1500.00 for the Ghurkha Welfare Trust and Oxfam. There are four + two vital support crew.

The training has now come to an end and they are now busy organising themselves for the event. If you would like to follow their progress you can go on Facebook where they have set up `Charlie’s Angels Trailwalker 20102` You can find it on http://www.facebook.com/groups/290697884350598/ and if you would like to sponsor Charlie you can go to http://www.oxfam.org.uk/trailwalker or by going to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserPage.action?userUrl=charliebeeden&faId=199943&isTeam=true

Updates of the event will be posted and it is hoped it will be linked to the Trailwalker Tracking system to let you know where they are or at least which check points they have been through, as they will be electronically tagged. Feel free to leave comments and words of encouragement, as they will be given them at the checkpoints. I am sure they will need them to help with the night stint and to help them get over the finish line in Brighton. Good luck to you all.
