The Stoolball Team are holding a fundraising evening tomorrow Saturday 31st March at Robertsbridge Club and they will be presenting something new for the village, a `Kurling Night`. This is played just the same as ordinary `Curling` but without the need for ice. It cost £1 per person to play and team of 4 members are required. Don’t worry if you don’t have a team because teams will be made up on the night from spare players. You have to register to play by 7.30pm and there is a Prize for the winning team. You can also see Alan or any Stoolball team member at this event if you are interested in joining them.

If you are taking GCSE or A-levels and feel you need extra revision there is a programme available to help over the Easter Holidays.

This is being run by Leapfrog Revision Courses and is being held at the Royal Victoria Hotel in St. Leonard’s. The first week is Monday 2nd April to Thursday 5th April and the second week is Tuesday 10th April to Friday 13th April. This is examination focussed with highly qualified, expert teachers. Monday 2nd April will see PCSO Tina Grevett in Robertsbridge High Street at 4pm for her meet and greet session.

St Mary’s Women’s Fellowship are holding their first fundraising event in aid of the Cardiomyopathy Association at Robertsbridge Youth Centre on Thursday 12th April from 3pm – 5.30pm.

I wrote about this disease a few weeks ago as it can affect anyone at any time and is often inherited. There is a member of the Women’s Fellowship that has this condition and her and her family have been helped greatly with support from the CMA. This first event is an Afternoon Tea with lots of different homemade cakes available. There will be coffee, chocolate and lemon cakes with muffins, scones and very large chocolate cookies too. There will also be a raffle and an exhibition of local photography to browse. Sounds like a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon and support a very good cause. Also a good time to remind you that Sam and Jamie Pither are running the London Marathon this year also raising funds for CMA, if you would like to sponsor them you can go online to uk.virginmoneygiving.com/sampither or in person by going to 74 Millrise. Internet use over Broadband is increasing rapidly with so many more users. Experts say that even if your Broadband speed is generally adequate at present it probably will not be in just a few years. ESCC plan to set up very fast Broadband for rural areas (which includes us in Robertsbridge) but they need expressions of interest to judge the demand. There is a green page in the newly distributed Parish Newsletter that tells you how to do this or alternatively you can go to www.salehurstpc.org.uk/news_and_events.asp and just follow up the information you need. If you haven’t already done so please do it now and help not only yourself but also the whole community for future Broadband use.

Don’t forget if you are organising an event in the village and want to check that there are not lots of things on the same day or if you just want to know what is happening on certain days please go in and see Sandie at the Floral Boutique as she now has a village diary to try and streamline dates and events for the coming year.

Ladies darts: We played our final league match at The Rose & Crown in an exciting match which was decided on the last game of the night. We were 3-2 down after the singles with victories for Carol Apps and Eileen Morgan while we went further behind after Steph Goldsmith/Dawn Mitchell were our only doubles winners however we recovered to level the scores at 5-5 after trebles victories for Eileen/Steph/Carol and Jackie Danaher/Dawn/Steph but we could not find the elusive double on the last game to lose 6-5. There were high scores for Dawn[116, 90, 86], Carol[95, 87], Steph [94] and Jackie[91, 90].

On Monday[2nd April] is Singles Knockout Cup with Jackie at Ticehurst Club while Carol and Steph are at The Royal Oak.

Friday darts: The Pushpenny Team K.O. Final was played at The Kings Head and we played The Millers Arms. Losing the toss we had to choose who went first and it was decided that Ted Goldfinch and Michael Stone started and they won 2-0. The Millers Arms chose their best pairing to go next against Dave Goodsell and Alan Apps and to their surprise they won 2-0 to win the Knockout Cup which gave us the double as we have already won the league. Tonight is the final of the Darts Team Knockout and also the Darts Singles Knockout at Staplecross Club. On Easter Sunday [8th April] the very popular Open Pairs Darts Knockout will be at Robertsbridge Club and entrance is £1 and registration is at 7.30p.m. This has proved very popular and is a lot of fun so come along and enjoy the Easter break.

Stoolball: The first event of the new season is an Indoor Curling Night at Robertsbridge Club on Saturday 31st March 2012. Entry is £1 per person and a maximum of 4 players per team. Registration of teams is at 7.30p.m. or you can phone Alan Apps 01580-880877 to register your team but don’t worry if you can’t get a team there will be spare players on the night to make up a team. This is a fun event and there is a prize for the winning team. Training for the new season starts on Tuesday 3rd April 2012 at the Cricket Ground and anybody is welcome to attend.
