Work on the replacement building has been under way for more than a month. It is due to open in October.

It was last August when the club's original clubhouse behind its eastern terrace was severely damaged in an arson attack. No-one has been caught for the crime.

The club's talks with its insurers have resulted in the replacement clubhouse which is being proposed.

Planning agent Ken Hilton tells the council: "The proposed clubhouse is considered to be of superior appearance to the original clubhouse and, being sited in its original position, it is not considered to affect any of the surrounding properties."

The new clubhouse will be built of brick instead of being a timber-framed structure.

It is the same size '“ 430sq m '“ as the previous building and occupies exactly the same space on the ground.

Its height is also the same but it has a single pitched roof rather than a double pitched felt one.

The internal layout of the social facility mirrors the previous arrangement with a clubhouse seating area, bar and servery and canopy area leading to a front porch.
