Rolling pins at the ready for Great Horsham Bake Off

As part of the renowned ‘Big Nibble’ event, organised by Horsham District Council in conjunction with Horsham Markets, in Horsham town centre on Saturday 31 August and Sunday 1 September, the Sunday Bake Off will award a ‘Supreme Champion’ with some glorious goodies.

Whilst the adult competition may be the highlight for some, there will also be two classes for children to find The Great Horsham Bake off Children’s Champion - an opportunity for all to get involved.

Some amazing prizes have already been revealed for the winners, courtesy of Steamer Trading Cookshop, and entrants have the chance to win:

· Le Creuset bakeware set

· Cook book bundle

· Joseph Joseph Mixing Bowl Set

· Kitchen Craft various baking items

· Green Pan Bakeware Set

John Bowles, branch manager of Steamer Trading Cookshop Horsham, said: “Steamer Trading Cookshop are very excited to be part of the first Horsham Bake Off.

“We have provided some fantastic prizes and are looking forward to seeing the entries.

“We also have some exciting demonstrations in our store over the Big Nibble event and look forward to seeing lots of customers getting involved.”

On the day of the Bake Off, Steamer’s free in store demo between 11am and 1pm will be aimed at children - making and decorating ‘cake pops’.

Entry for the Bake Off is just £2 per person per class, to be paid upon delivery of entries between 9am and 10:30am on the day of the competition, but with the added bonus of entrants receiving a ‘goodie bag’ including branded spatula (RRP £4.99) and Le Creuset Recipe Books from Steamer Trading Cookshop.

A £2 voucher will also be issued to be spent in store, courtesy of Waitrose Horsham. Entry is online only at www.thebignibble.co.uk.

Jo Thomas, manager of Waitrose in Horsham, added: “We are so excited to be supporting Horsham’s first ever Bake Off competition.

“We have noticed an increase in the interest and in the sales of our baking lines in store, which can only be testament to how many budding bakers we have in the area.

“The Great Horsham Bake Off looks set to be a great success and we hope this is just the first of many.”

The Bake Off competition will be held in a large marquee sited on Horsham’s piazza on The Forum, outside competition sponsor Beales department store. Beales is also offering an amazing prize - the kMix Fire Cracker Kitchen Machine, which retails in store at £399.99.

Beales manager Andrew Oakley said: “The team at Beales of Horsham are really excited to be sponsoring and participating in the first year of the Great Bake Off. This is a fabulous opportunity for the Horsham community to showcase their home baking talents and we are looking forward to judging the tasty treats on The Forum piazza outside our store.

A variety of associated stalls and activities will be based in the immediate area including cookery based demos such as Tara Woodford of Scrumulicious sharing cake decorating tips. There will also be live entertainment from a harpist, plus the renowned ‘Tea Ladies’ street performance group.
