THE 100 in 100 campaign with Northbrook College has received a major boost as Rolls-Royce confirms it is backing the initiative.

With a total of 48 apprentice placements and pledges towards roles having been secured, we are now almost half-way to the target

To date, a wide range of businesses across Worthing, Shoreham and Littlehampton have embraced the campaign, recognising the merits of giving young people across the area a vital first foot on the career ladder.

From leading IT firms such as Damovo, through to care providers and major medical production companies including GlaxoSmithkline, it seems the word is well and truly spreading.

The campaign has already received the backing of local MPs Sir Peter Bottomley and Tim Loughton. They have been fully supportive of our efforts with Northbrook College to help secure as many apprenticeship placements as possible during the three-month campaign.

Worthing and Adur chamber of Commerce has also backed the scheme, with a number of its members actively considering taking on apprentices as part of the initiative.

Rolls-Royce’s involvement comes as part of the firm’s wider apprenticeship programme, and serves to further strengthen the 100 in 100 initiative.

Andrew Ball, communications manager with the Goodwood-based prestige motoring firm, believes apprentices are of vital importance to the company.

He said: “For us, apprenticeships are very much about investment in our future.

“So, it is very important to us that we develop talent through apprenticeships.

“We have enormous respect for the young people who work with us, which is why we are keen to work with colleges and universities within the area.
