Roses in lesser quantities still smell as sweet for Felpham and Middleton show

It was a case of quality rather than quantity at Felpham and Middleton Horticultural Society's rose and sweet pea show.

The early summer meant fewer rose exhibits than usual, but those on display were as beautiful as ever and the exotic perfume of sweet peas filled the air.

Visitors' attention, however, was grabbed by the single delphinium spire which towered over the proceedings at St Mary's Centre and was a stunning example.

The many other flower entries helped to fill the centre with a blaze of colour. The potted exhibits, including cacti, were all very fine examples of their kind.

Also a delight to see were the floral arrangements. They lived up to expectations with the winners joined by several highly-commended and commended entries as well.

Entries in the produce section were well received by the judges with a special mention for the winner of the broad beans section.

The soft fruit entries looked perfectly ripe and juicy and extremely tempting as well.

Members were thanked by Leslie Allatt, the president of the society, for all their hard work leading to such a successful show.

They are looking forward to their next flower and produce show at the centre on August 15.

The next meeting is also at St Mary's Centre at 7.30pm on July 28 with a talk on havens for wildlife by Dennis Bright. Entry is free.
