Rotary club’s Coin Collector unveiled

A contingent from the Rotary Clubs of Bexhill and Senlac congregated with Cllr Carroll, a Past President of Senlac Rotary Club, in the recently opened Marina Court Gardens to celebrate the official unveiling of the Rotary Coin Collector.

Built by Rotarian Hugh Allen, Jordan Whitewood-Neal came up with the idea for the coin collector and architect Michael Whiting designed it to look like the Rotary Club logo.

At the ceremony, President of Bexhill Rotary Club Raouf Oderuth officially unveiled the iconic Coin Collector and assured those present that all monies collected will be donated to local needy causes.

“Thanks go to Rother District Council for backing the project and for allowing it to be placed in such a prominent position in the town,” he said.

“I would also encourage anyone who visits Marina Court Garden to please donate generously; the proceeds will be shared between local, nominated charities.”

The Coin Collector replaces the original wishing and is the centre piece of the newly revamped Marina Gardens.

Rotarian Raouf thanked everyone who had been involved in the development of the Coin Collector including Rhett Thompson who Raouf said did “such a professional job on the signwriting,” Cllr and Senlac Rotary Club Past President Stuart Earl and Senlac Rotary Club Past President David King for their involvement and support in making the Coin Collector a reality, Bexhill Rotary Past President Roger Batey for working in the background so that the Coin Collector could be unveiled and Rotary District 1120 Governor, Ray Dixon, accompanied by his wife, Jenny, for attending the unveiling.

To round off the ceremony, all those present, with much jingling of cash, each donated a coin to the Coin Collector, and expressed the hope that over the coming years Rotary in Bexhill, with lots of generous donations, can help a host of charitable causes in the locality.

Speaking after officially opening the gardens in July Cllr Carroll said the end result of the works is fantastic. “The scheme is designed to reflect feedback from local community groups that gave us the opportunity to provide better connection between the seafront and the town centre,” he said. “It has really improved the appearance of this area of the town centre no end.”
