Rotary walk for charity

PREPARATIONS are already under way for the Rotary Club of Bexhill's annual community charity walk this summer.

The event, sponsored by the Observer and now in its sixth year, has raised thousands of pounds for local organisations, clubs, schools and charities.

The Rotary Club is appealing for organisations to take part and recruit walkers and sponsors.

Participants can choose between a seven and 15 mile walks through the 1066 countryside or a two mile walk along Bexhill Promenade.

All the money collected by sponsored walkers can be given to the charity or local organisation of their choice. The only cost is 1 per walker, payable to the Rotary Club, to help cover the expense of setting up the event.

Organiser Harold Lawrence said: "Put the date, June 8 2008, in your diary right now. It could be worth hundreds or even thousands of pounds to your organisation. Last year one walker raised over 700 in sponsorship.

"You will also read about the community walk regularly in the Observer. All you have to do in the meantime is to publicise the walk within your organisation and recruit walkers to sponsor your cause. Leave the rest to the Rotary - we are pretty good at organising walks!"
