Rother leader Cllr Carl Maynard said: "Rother District Council recognises the value of small businesses and rural firms to their communities.

"This money will give businesses access to the support and expert advice Ten Sixty Six Enterprise provides, which will help to make their firms more successful. Supporting such a scheme is made even more important by the current economic climate."

Ten Sixty Six Enterprise chief executive, Graham Marley, said: "We know from our experience over many years of helping rurally based businesses that they welcome and benefit from independent advice - in the current financial climate it becomes even more important for businesses to ask for help before it is too late.

"We have a team of qualified business advisers who can help businesses to plan the way forward - whether this be a short term cash flow problem caused by the recession or developing a longer term strategy."
