The Joint Waste Partnership (JWP), which oversees waste collections across East Sussex, measures the number of missed collections per 100,000 due.

At a recent meeting of the Joint Waste Committee, which is made up of representatives from Hastings and Eastbourne Borough Councils, the county council, Rother and Wealden District Councils, it was revealed that Rother’s performance had seen ‘recent improvement’.

A report by Madeleine Gorman, partnership manager, said: “General performance in Rother now appears to be close to partnership average, thus far it having been poor.

“While this improvement is welcomed, it is frustrating to report the incidence of ‘repeated’ misses remains disproportionately high and considerable staff time is being spent, working with Kier’s local management, to resolve these issues.

“There continues to be a lack of consistency of service with repeat misses with some recurring even after time and effort has been invested in reaching what was thought to be resolution. Similarly, missed assisted collections remain disproportionately high.

“The level of customer contact that is generated by missed collections (across East Sussex) remains a primary concern for the JWP and the agreed target is no more than 60 missed collections per 100,000 due.”
