Police are investigating after a pest controller spotted two men shooting in the woods at night.

“A pest controller was going about his duty in woods in the Staplecross area when he observed two men shooting,” said a spokesman.

“As wild boar reside in the area he suspected that is what they were shooting.”

The incident was reported on January 15, reference number 0152.

Today’s Farm Watch update also includes the theft of gardening equipment from a garage in Battle.

A red Honda mower and an orange and silver Stihl hedge cutter were reported stolen from the garage in Rowbarns on January 13.

Anyone with information about the theft, or who has been offered the goods for sale, can call Sussex Police on 101 quoting reference 0666 of 13/01.

County-wide, the update included a reminder to ensure all animal enclosures are secure.

“This week there have been reports of 12 horses and 20 sheep loose on the highway,” said the Farm Watch co-ordinator.

“These numbers are far too high; please ensure your fences are secure and that any gate onto the highway is locked.
