Rother Neighbourhood Watch (RNHW) Chairman Ted Kemp & vice Chair Keith Miller joined Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne at Camber Sands, Rye, on September 5, to accept the grant award and explain how the funding will help reduce crime in Sussex. Ted Kemp said the funding award will be a big boost to RNHW: “We are delighted to have been awarded this grant from the Safer in Sussex Community Fund, which will help with street signs, window stickers, and other essential items to combat crime in Rother. Plus we are having a new gazebo made for events throughout Rother to show we are an active Neighbourhood Watch.”

The Safer Sussex Community Fund helps local voluntary and community groups tackle crime and improve community safety by providing financial support to projects and services that address the priorities outlined in the Police and Crime Plan.

Awards of up to £5,000 will be granted for projects that meet funding criteria following consideration by the Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner and approval by the PCC. In exceptional circumstances requests for funding above £5,000 will be considered. Bids will be considered and funding awarded on a quarterly basis.

Commending RNHW on its successful bid Mrs Bourne said: “The Rother Community safety initiatives is a great example of an innovative local project that aims to make our communities safer. Since the Community Fund launched in December 2013 over 100 applications have been submitted and more than £400,000 made available to support local crime reduction and community safety initiatives. I am delighted with the response so far, which tells me local organisations and community groups care about – and are committed to – helping keep Sussex safe. I look forward to visiting the team at Rother Neighbourhood Watch and following the progress of their project over the coming months.” www.sussex-pcc.gov.uk/safer-in-sussex-community-fund/
