Following several successful Crossfit Games competitions in Waldron, professional trainer Alex Purcell is organising a new fund-raising fitness event.
The first ever Waldron Rowing Championship will be held outdoors on Saturday, July 4. The event will take place in Waldron Park from 8.15am and continue until the last team has taken part.
Alex told the Express: “This - like all the other fitness challenges we have held - will raise money for a charity called Coppafeel. which was started by a young woman who discovered she had breast cancer by ensuring she carried out accurate breast checks. We ensure that 100 per cent of donations go straight to the charity, as always, and we are asking for a minimum donation of £40 per team. It would be great to raise £500.”
Alex explained that teams will comprise four people, ideally four men and four women. He, together with a couple of other trainers who are helping out, will pick the teams.
The formats of the rowing sessions will ensure that each member completes a 500 metre row and the time taken by all members to row the 500 metres will be added up, including the swap-over time.
There will also be a timed two kilometre row where team members can decide how long they want to row for, followed by a timed 10 minute row - the furthest distance members can row in the 10 minutes allotted time.
Supervising the event, helping on the day and taking part will be Alex himself, Camilla Hunter-Evans, Louis Chavannes (Talawa,) Dan James (Weald Fit and Therapy,) Ryan Smith (Ryan Smith Fitness) and Amy Brashill (Funky Monkey Personal Training.)
If you would like to take part you should contact him by Sunday, June 7 on: firstname.lastname@example.org. Full team details will be released on Sunday, June 14.
Alex said: “It’s an ideal way to measure your own fitness, have a great day and help a terrific charity.”
