Row4Charity - less than 1,000 to go

Still way ahead of the game the Row4Charity crew continues to amaze and delight supporters as the Bexhill Trust Challenger heads for home.

This week saw the final thousand mile countdown begin and by Wednesday the team of Ian Allen, Matt Hellier, and brothers Phil and Nick McCorry had less than 750 to go before they finish the race in Mauritius.

They were almost 350 miles ahead of their nearest fours rivals Pura Vida, and even more impressively 150 miles in front of the eight crew, Aud Eamus.

Row4Charity spokesman Geoff Dixon commented: "The fact we have stayed in front of them for so long has amazed everybody. We expected to be overtaken about two weeks ago by the eight boat. It is all due to both the boys' efforts and the tactics of the routing technical advisor Andy Bristow."

An important aspect of the challenge for the team has been to raise funds for The Stroke Association and Geoff is appealing to supporters, family, friends and Observer readers to keep their donations coming in - they can do so by visiting www.Row4Charity.co.uk.

Geoff said: "For anybody who has entered our sweepstake, which is being held at various places around town, the boys are due to finish the race between the hours of 1am and 12midnight.

"We would like to thank all those who made donations to The Stroke Association appeal via Just Giving, and please keep them coming in to Row4Charity."

He added: "Everyone connected with Row4Charity would like to offer their condolences to Paul Hamilton whose mother Eileen passed away after suffering a stroke. Paul has been a mainstay of the charity since last August giving us financial support as well letting us use the Waterfront Club both for our functions and the use of an office as a shore base for the boys."
