EAST Sussex residents got into the spirit of the day on Friday, celebrating the Royal Wedding with street parties and barbecues.

While a number of official street parties were organised in various towns and villages, many more smaller get-togethers were arranged after Prince William and Catherine Middleton were married.

Big screens were set up in places such as Mayfield but many residents took advantage of the extra trains provided on the day to travel to London and witness events and soak up the atmosphere.

Hailsham saw street parties in Ingrams Way and Windsor Road, also Fairfield in Herstmonceux and Tower Close in Pevensey Bay.

Polegate School hosted a closed celebration on Thursday.

How did you celebrating the Royal Wedding? Did you hold a street party – or just had family, friends and neighbours together for a more modest celebration? Whatever plans you had, we would love to receive some photos of your event and a few words explaining what you did to mark the historic occasion.
