RSPCA festive fundraiser

Animal lovers found Christmas presents aplenty at the RSPCA fair at St Martha's church hall.

There were many bargains to be had on the stalls which offered books, tapes, bric-a-brac, jewellery, and homemade cakes as well as the RSPCA's own charity cards and gift ideas.

The stalls were run by a team of dedicated volunteers including 101 year old Violet Monk and her daughter Iris Zebrak who were in charge of the tombola, Fran Belsham who was selling cards, and Margaret Chisholm and her brother Tom Gibbs who were looking after music and films, as well as books.

Chairman of the local RSPCA branch Mary Bristow said: "We have been very busy. I think its because there are a lot of bargains...charities have bargains and need support, so people are very good to us. We don't charge much because stock isn't money, and we need money for the animals. We are also running a big Christmas raffle with over 30 prizes, so we are very busy with that."
