Rubbish Heap Challenge

Forty enthusiastic eco-reps from St. Richard's Catholic College took part in The Rubbish Heap Challenge.

This is a county-wide programme run by East Sussex County Council for 11 to 16 year olds. aimed at getting young people to consider issues surrounding waste and recycling.

All of the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the event and they learnt a lot about the significant challenges ahead for the county but also the real opportunities existing to improve the environmental impact of waste and recycling. Year 7 pupil Georgina Pepper, who was one of the prize winners in a Rubbish Heap challenge activity, said: "It was all great fun and I particularly enjoyed the quiz."

The St. Richard's team of Eco-reps will be looking forward to contributing to another county-wide event in November. The first ever Climate Change Youth Summit will be hosted by the county council involving participation from secondary schools around East Sussex.
