Rudgwick horse training yard a life dream fulfilled

The event marked the opening of her new training and livery yard, Free Spirit Horsemanship, officially opened by horsemanship expert Joe Midgely.

At her yard 20-year-old Emily will concentrate on all aspects of natural horsemanship enabling the horses in her care to live as naturally as possibly, and also offering natural horsemanship training, reflecting Free Spirit Horsemanship techniques.

The day was opened by a display of horse agility by expert Sue Gardner, who explained methods of gaining a horse’s confidence around obstacles and achieving equine agility, while Emily demonstrated the techniques with a horse named Cordero.

Renowned horse whisperer, Adam Shereston explained the extent to which human emotions can affect the response of a horse, demonstrating subtle body movements which can achieve a response, and using horse body language and energy to establish a better connection between horse and person.

Horseman Joe Midgley, winner of an American horsemanship showdown, demonstrated what can be achieved, starting with an untrained six-year-old Appaloosa mare, who had been well-handled on the ground but never ridden before.

He had already created confidence and respect through handling, and went on to ride her for the first time as part of his demonstration.

Joe cut the ribbon and officially declared Free Spirit Livery open.

The event also included different stalls, including that of Paul Ayling, promoting his animal and equine healing workshops, Stockinjur Natural Horsemanship equipment and natural products was also represented.
