Rustington Library to close for nine weeks

RUSTINGTON Library is set to close for more than two months for building improvements and the installation of self-service machines.

The library, in Claigmar Road, will close its doors on Friday, May 18.

The temporary closure, which will last nine weeks, will see new heating and lighting systems installed and self-service machines fitted.

Residents will be able to borrow as many as 20 books or DVDs before the library closes and use other branches, including Angmering Library, in Arundel Road, East Preston Library, in The Street, and Littlehampton Library, in Maltravers Road,.

The library will reopen at 10am on Monday, July 23.

West Sussex County Council deputy leader, Lionel Barnard, oversees the library service.

Speaking about the changes, he said: “These essential remedial works and improvements will help make Rustington library a much more comfortable environment.

“Combining the installation of the new heating and lighting systems will be more cost-effective and safer when carried out together, and we always have residents’ safety in our minds when we embark on these works.

“The branch will also benefit from the self-service terminals, which are an easy and efficient method for loaning items that everyone can use.”

Littlehampton Library unveiled its self-service machines at the start of the year.
