Rustington lorry driver charged with dangerous driving following A27 crash chaos

A RUSTINGTON man has been charged with dangerous driving following a road collision in Arundel, in January, which left a busy stretch of the A27 sealed off for around nine hours.

Horace McDonald, 53, of Shirley Close, will appear on bail at Worthing Magistrate’s Court on Friday, March 22, charged with dangerous driving, as a result of an investigation by Sussex Road Policing officers into the crash, which happened in The Causeway,

McDonald was driving the loaded Viridor waste lorry west along the A27 when his vehicle tipped over, crushing an oncoming Citroën Saxo car.

The driver of the car escaped with minor injury, but a passing good samaritan had the roof of her Vauxhall saloon cut off by firefighters after giving sanctuary to two witnesses who were suffering neck pains and were cut out on the advice of paramedics.

Due to the damage to the road, the recovery of the toppled lorry and clearing of debris the road was closed for nearly nine hours.
