Rustington man seriously injured in A27 collision

A 58-year-old Rustington man is seriously ill in hospital after a collision with a car on the A27 at Chichester on Friday (May 3).

The man was initially taken to St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, with serious head injuries, but was later transferred to the neurological unit at Southampton General Hospital.

He was found lying in the road on the A27 eastbound carriageway leading from the Portfield roundabout, at about 3.25pm.

He was crossing the dual carriageway from north to south when he collided with a silver VW coming away from the roundabout and heading east.

Sgt Tony Crisp, of the Sussex Police road policing unit, said: “Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the injured man prior to the incident is asked to call 101 quoting Operation Elston.”

The driver of the VW, a 23-year-old woman from West Sussex, was uninjured.
