Rustington shop team gives £1m prop

The shop, in The Street, is one of the charity’s oldest and in two decades of trading has raised more than £1m for the hospice.

Staff and volunteers gathered at the shop last week to mark the occasion and were joined by Guy Clinch, head of trustees, and chief executive Hugh Lowson.

Guy congratulated staff and volunteers at the shop on the anniversary and then helped shop manager Trudi Gordon to cut a specially-made birthday cake.

Over the two decades the shop has established itself as part of the Rustington trading community and is well supported by residents and other local businesses. A recent re-fit has boosted donations and takings.

Shop manager Trudi, assistant manager Tracy Walton and their team of more than 30 loyal volunteers sort donated items and restock the shelves and rails.

Guy told them: “Celebrating 20 years of trading is a momentous occasion for a charity shop. We could not have reached such a significant birthday without the support of the local community, so our thanks go to them for their on-going support and generosity.

“It costs around £4m per year to run the services at St Barnabas House and sales in our shops contribute significantly towards this.”
