Rustington store’s card recycling pays off twice

Green-minded customers of a Rustington supermarket can do their bit for the planet twice-over.

Sainsbury’s at Rustington is encouraging shoppers to recycle their Christmas cards in a special bin in the foyer of the New Road supermarket from now until January 15.

The store chair is also making a donation to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) based on the volume of cards collected.

Store manager Rafe Overy said: “We know that our customers care about the environment and reducing their impact on landfill, so we’re providing really simple and hassle-free ways for them to live more sustainably and recycle their Christmas waste once the holidays are over”.

The Rustington store also offers other recycling facilities including batteries – Sainsbury’s was the first UK retailer to provide the service in every store, with more than 21 million batteries recycled by in the past year from in-store collections, equivalent to more than 50 per cent of all the batteries it sold in that time.
