Rustington supermarket evacuated due to fire

SHOPPERS were evacuated from a Rustington supermarket, and a man was treated by paramedics, when a fire started in the roof.

It happened at Sainsbury's at about 2pm yesterday (Thursday, March 18), when a heating generator caught light, and the smoke was sucked into the store.

A man was treated for smoke inhalation, and the generator was severely damaged.

Fire crews from East Preston and Worthing put out the flames and isolated the electricity supply.

A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze had started accidentally.
