Rustington teen still in intensive care following Brighton pile up

A RUSTINGTON teenager is still in intensive care following a car crash in Brighton yesterday (Monday, June 14).

The 19-year-old girl was one of six people seriously injured in the accident, which happened on the A23 London Road, near the Black Lion Pub, in Patcham just after midnight, when a black Renault Clio, with five young women inside, collided with a Vauxhall Astra.

The cars then crashed into a parked silver Ford Focus and a white Mercedes Sprinter van.

The Rustington teen, who was a passenger in the Clio, was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital with leg and pelvic injuries, where she remains and is said to be in a serious condition.

Two 19 year olds from Newhaven and Portslade, and an 18-year-old from Lindfield, are also still in hospital, though the driver of the Clio, 19 and from Worthing, suffered whiplash and injuries to her sternum, and was released last night.

The 26-year-old driver of the Vauxhall, from Brighton, also suffered whiplash, and has also since left hospital.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "The road was closed for just under five hours while rescue, recovery and investigation work took place. Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact 0845 60 70 999 quoting Operation Royton."
