The new store will be opened by two of the John Lewis Partnership’s longest serving employees at 8am.

The retailer announced plans to relocate its shop in Littlehampton to the town earlier this year after reaching an agreement to lease the vacant former
Co-op unit at the junction of Broadmark Lane and The Street.

The Littlehampton shop will close at 6pm tonight.

All 120 employees from Waitrose Littlehampton have remained with the business and ten additional jobs have been created.

Rita Warner and Robert Partridge, who have each worked for Waitrose for more than 32 years, will unveil the branch in recognition of their long service.

Branch manager David Patrickson said: “We are proud to have been associated with Littlehampton for more than four years and look forward to beginning a new chapter in Rustington.

“It was not an easy decision to relocate, but the new branch gives us the opportunity to continue serving customers in the region in the long term.

“Ensuring our team remained with the business was always a priority and it seems only fitting that Rita and Robert unveil the new shop. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the first ever Waitrose supermarket opening and it’s incredible that we have two people who have worked for our business more than half of that.”

Sarah Wickens, director of Store Property Holdings, landlord for many of the village’s retailers, added: “The new Waitrose store is exciting news for Rustington.

“The village already offers wonderful choice for shoppers in a beautiful environment to visit, with more than 80 local stores including high street names and inspiring independent boutiques, plus plenty of free parking, so we believe this will make it an even more popular shopping destination.”
