Rye area on Flood alert!

Rivers in the Rye area continued to be on Floodwatch status this morning after yesterday's torrential rain

The Environment Agency placed Floodwatch status on the River Tillingham, at Rye, The River Brede and the Rother.

Floodwatch status means there is a risk of flooding on roads, fields and gardens.

The next level is Floodwarning which means that homes and businesses could be at imminent risk of flooding.

Most of the Brede Valley was under water yesterday and some homes at Rye came perilously close to flooding.

More heavy rain is predicted for the rest of the week with the Rye area in the the grip of a band of low presssure.

Police are advising motorists to drive carefully and allow more time for braking in the wet conditions.
