Rye chip shop tolaunch new hotel

The site already has a successful Greek restaurant as well as the take-away.

New plans submitted are for the construction of a two storey side extension to the north-east of the existing building.

The proposed extension would provide an additional 235 square metres of floor space at ground floor level and 270 square metres at first floor level.

It would create 14 double rooms and two family suites, all with en-suite facilities.

There has been support from the project with one regular visitor to Rye saying that the one thing that Rye lacks is decent affordable accommodation and that in the past friends have found little accommodation choice or a prohibitive price, and have had to stay further afield.

But there are some concerns over the plans, particularly from the Environment Agency and Rye Conservation Society over flood risk.

A Conservation Society spokesman said: “There is a lack of any onsite parking.

“The owner is proposing to pay for the parking on the adjacent Euro car park but we question how this is to be enforced now or in the future and, as a brownfield site, there is no guarantee that it will remain a car park.

Rye Town Council is supporting the application and Rother Council’s planning department is recommending approval , subject to the owners completing a Flood Risk Assessment.

The committee will decide when it meets on Thursday October 16.
