Rye councillor Granville takeson 100 mile charity bike ride

INTREPID Rye councillor Granville Bantick is planning on taking part in a 100 mile cycle challenge to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care and mark his 80th birthday,

Cllr Bantick is looking for sponsorship and support ahead of the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 mile event, which takes place on August 10 this year.

Cllr Bantick said: “This is a charity which I support since losing my first wife with breast cancer. Wishing to do something special to celebrate my 80th birthday on July 16, I thought I would like to attempt this challenge.

“The ride starts at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, weaves through the streets of London, then out into Surrey, climbing Box Hill en route, before returning to the finish on the Mall.

“I am in regular training and am hopeful I shall be fit enough to complete this challenge.

“I am looking for sponsors to be able to raise a sum for Breast Cancer Care.

“Cheques payable to Breast Cancer Care can be sent to Granville Bantick at 25, Udimore Road, Rye, TN31 7DS.
