Rye councillor tells Rother to come clean

The authority has been accused of a ‘significant failing’ by withholding important information from Council Tax payers.

Information relates to a number of issues including pay-outs to senior officers and revenue from car parks.

The Government accused Conservative controlled Rother of not complying with statutory obligations.

Rye district councillor Sam Souster launched a withering attack on Rother Council leader Carl Maynard and said: “Cllr Maynard should be held accountable to the council and local electors and come out and explain this.

“It is a damning response from a Government Minister. The future of the council has been damaged by this.

“There is arrogance on the part of some councillors. People have never held their hands up.

“You can see how serious this is when you have a Conservative Minister slamming a Conservative controlled council.”
