Rye field bid rejected by council

A bid to buy a 71-acre field near Rye to stop it from being auctioned has been rejected by the council.

But the council declined the bid to keep it fair as there is a lot of interest in the plot off New Road but encouraged the group to participate in the auction.

“The forthcoming auction of this piece of land has already generated a number of enquiries, therefore in the interests of being fair, open and transparent, we have decided to proceed with the auction for the site,” a council spokesman said.

“However, we would strongly encourage the group to submit its offer to the auctioneer and to take part in next week’s auction.”
