Rye group could bechanging its shape

The AGM takes place on Wednesday February 4 at 7pm at the Rye Club, Market Road, Rye.

The main item for discussion will be the welfare of Rye, and whether the aim should be to go forward under the CDR’s existing banner, or alternatively, to continue under a new grouping maybe called the “Friends of Rye”, since the CDR’s original political aspiration to create a more democratic governance for Rye has been surpassed by the newly formed Neighbourhood Plan for Rye.

Should that be agreed it is anticipated it would generate greater interest by other groups and individuals to become involved in the Friends’ activities, and increase membership.

The aims of the Friends of Rye are listed as:- To make Rye even more attractive as a place to live; to attract more visitors which would help the local economy and enliven the town and to ensure visitors have a rewarding experience so they will return and encourage others to come.

Members of the public, whether or not they are members of the CDR, are welcome to attend and participate in the debate, although not able to vote.

The CDR was formed by the late Dr Keith Taylor and David Bourne in 2005.

During the last town council elections a number of elected councillors stood under the CDR banner.
