Rye Music Festival hits high note

The Oakfest Music Festival packed a week's worth of music and fun into just one day and raised around £2,000 for charity.

The event, held at Rye Road- Rye Foreign on Saturday June 18, kicked off at 1pm with Local Covers band Total Mayhem and though the weather looked ominous one of the organisers, Nastassja Kaschevsky, said it did not dampen festival goers spirits. “Even though the skies were foreboding whilst last minute preparations for Oakfest were being carried out on Saturday morning and tents were being set up by festival goers on the camping site - all went to plan, and a fantastic day was had by all,” she said.

Ten other Bands and Musicians, who had given their time for free, followed Total Mayhem’s opening spot. They included Slam, Paul and Janette Morfey, Trace Walton,

Slap Bang, Phil Trainor, Carl Burgess and the Roosters, duo Roger Hubbard and Richard Studholme and The Bling Crosbies.

Best Band and Newcomer polled by Blues Matters Magazine 2015, The Black Sheep played later in the day, and the Headliners Eastbourne based The Tourle Brothers played to an ecstatic audience late into the night.

Slallholders included The Oliver Curd Trust, the Festival’s chosen charity, and the Rother Youth Group who sold a range of home made sweets and crafts. Plenty of Ale was on sale in the Beer Tent and delicious food was cooked on the Barbecue. A Raffle held later in the evening had many generous donated gifts. These included a First Prize was a Hot Air Balloon Ride, and a framed Festival Poster signed by some of the Musicians who performed on the day. Children were kept entertained with Face Painting.

Nastassja says Oakfest has in the past raised a lot of money for various charities, adding: “With donations still coming in, at the last count so far, £1,800 has been raised for The Oliver Curd Trust; overheads were higher this year, than in previous years.

“Our thanks go to everyone who took part, and all the Sponsors who gave to the event, for which the festival could not have gone ahead.”

The Oliver Curd Trust provides fully equipped holiday accommodation to families supporting children and young people in the UK, suffering from childhood cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

Donations can still be made for The Oliver Curd Trust via the Official Festival Website ‘About’ page either to ‘Just Giving’, or via Paypal on www.oakfestrye.wix.com/musicfestival. Keep up to date with all the latest Festival developments on the Facebook Page ‘Oakfest Rye’.
