Rye restaurant is top with foodies

A restaurant in Rye has been given the thumbs-up by foodie fans.

Webbe’s at the Fish Café in Tower Street, appears as one of the top 100 Fit for Foodies eateries in the UK for this year.

The list was compiled by OpenTable, a provider of online restaurant bookings.

The annual list reflects the combined opinions of more than 300,000 reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners at more than 4,900 restaurants across the UK.

Paul Webbe, owner of Webbe’s at the Fish Cafe, said: “We are very pleased as it’s a tribute to all of our hard work throughout the year.

“We need to maintain our high standards. It sets us apart from the rest and we use as much local produce as we possibly can.

“With OpenTable, it’s nice to be recognised and voted as it’s all done by people who have dined at the restaurants, whereas other food guides are just one person’s assessment of the restaurant.”

Paul and Rebecca Webbe also own the Wild Mushroom in Westfield, Webbe’s Rock-a-Nore in Hastings, Webbe’s at the Jerwood Gallery, also in Hastings, as well as Webbe’s Cookery School, which is located at the Rye restaurant.

This year’s top ranking restaurant on OpenTable was Prithvi, based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

Adrian Valeriano, vice-president, Europe, OpenTable, said: “OpenTable diners are the true detectives of what really makes a dining experience great.

“Their continuous and combined feedback from all over the country reveals some of the best restaurants for all ‘foodie fanatics’ out there. Each restaurant has literally brought something new to the table and impressed our diners with their culinary creativity.”
