Rye RNLI crew back in action

Volunteers at the Rye Harbour RNLI showed their dedication to the cause this weekend after completing a rescue just two days after their colleagues were injured on the water.

While an investigation into last Friday’s incident continues, it was business as usual at the lifeboat station as fellow crewmen were in action again on Sunday, May 10, after receiving reports of a 26ft angling boat stranded off Fairlight.

The Rye Harbour RNLI had been engaging in a training exercise when they received instructions to launch at 1.37pm from the Dover Coastguard.

“An angling boat had been taken under tow by another boat after it suffered engine failure while on return to port,” said an RNLI spokesman.

“The skipper of the towing boat called Dover Coastguard and requested assistance as they didn’t feel they had enough experience to get the boat into the harbour.

“The angling boat and its skipper were returned to the moorings at Rye Harbour and the RNLI relief lifeboat B-875 Alexander returned to station at 3.40pm.”

Andrew Tollett, deputy launching authority said: “Regular training is essential for our crews as you never know what you are going be called to or when.”
