Rye schools unite

Rye Primary becomes an Academy and all three schools will be able to share skills and resources under the umbrella of the Rye Academy Trust.

The new Education Quarter was announced last Friday at a special launch at The Milligan Theatre, at Rye College.

It has been a good year for Rye Community Primary School, which incorporated the Pugwash Nursery last September.

The Local Authority has recognised the school’s growing popularity by agreeing to fund its expansion to two forms of entry with additional accommodation promised.

Headteacher Jane Howard said: “I am looking forward to working collaboratively across our schools to the benefit of learners from 2 to 19 years of age.”

Jacqui Lait, Chair of the Rye Academy Trust said: “We have the opportunity to create together a unique educational experience of which our community can be justifiably proud. Excellent provision that will put Rye well and truly on the map!”

Whilst all three schools will retain their individual identity, belonging to the same Trust will open up opportunities to share staff expertise, professional development, specialist facilities and enriched learning.

Rye Community Primary School Chair of Governors, Nicky Stuart said: “We are thrilled to be working within a family of schools that can offer such fantastic opportunities for children and young people locally.”

Ann Cockerham, Executive Principal of the Rye Academy Trust, said: “All schools within the Rye Academy Trust have been judged to be good schools by Ofsted. By working more closely together, we can support one another to provide the outstanding education that our community deserves”.
