Rye student in upcoming Hollywood film

A Rye student has been rubbing shoulders with some of Hollywood’s finest actors including Liam Neeson and Sigourney Weaver.

Oliver Steer spent four months in Barcelona and other locations filming A Monster Calls alongside the Taken and Alien actors plus Felicity Jones from The Theory of Everything.

The Year 11 pupil at Rye College plays a school bully called Sully and said he made some ‘lifelong friends’ on the set.

“It was incredible being part of such an amazing cast and working with Bayona who directed the hit movie The Impossible,” he said.

“I’ve made some lifelong friends and learnt so much.”

The trailer for A Monster Calls is out now and is released in October, 2016.

Oliver has also been a television star as he had a lead role in BBC drama Casualty.

He’s not the only actor in the family mum Elizabeth Steer said his siblings are also professionals.

“Rye College has, as ever been very supportive of Ollies acting and the school has a very strong performing arts department,” she said.

“Oliver’s younger brother and sister Oscar and Lottie also work professionally and between the three of them, they have been in six movies, three TV shows and 10 adverts.”
