Rye students inspired by dance

RYE College students enjoyed a recent visit from the critically acclaimed Hofesh Shechter Dance Company

They performed extracts from two of their dance works “Uprising” and “Political Mother” for 300 Year 9 and Year 10 students before delivering dance and music workshops.

Head of Dance Liz Daines said: “The aim of the workshops was for the dancers from the company to work with many young people ranging from entirely inexperienced in dance and music to those who are already in training schemes to work professionally themselves.

“Having been inspired by the amazing performance of the dancers, the workshops were a huge success with every student finding an aspect that they were able to fully engage with and leaving school for the holidays buzzing with excitement at what they had achieved.”

The day was organised by Liz in collaboration with East Sussex Arts Partnership. Liz added: “Students and staff alike agreed that it was an extremely worthwhile experience for all who took part, especially as there was also the opportunity to attend a full length free performance by the company at the Stade in Hastings.”
