Saddle up forthis year’s bigcycling event

The event, which runs every April, and is in its 27th year, was launched by St Leonards Rotary Club this week

The club’s president, George Mighall, together with John Easter, the organiser of On Yer Bike, met at the hospice to present a cheque for £4,500, bringing the amount received by the hospice from the 2014 event to £5,231.

Marcia Dart, fundraising team leader at St Michael’s Hospice. said: “Once again we express our sincere thanks to St Leonards Rotary Club for its continued support through the cycle ride.”

The club took the opportunity while at the hospice to launch the 2015 event, which takes place on Sunday, April 26.

Club members were helped by Amanda Hildreth, Jodie Cornford and Shane Britt.

This year’s On Yer Bike event, also known as the Castle Cycle Challenge, starts and finishes at the RNLI lifeboat station. Cyclists have the choice of a 25-mile route to Pevensey Castle and return.

Alternatively they can tackle the more strenuous 40-mile route which proceeds from Pevensey Castle to Herstmonceux Castle and returns along the Rickney Marsh road.

Last year hundreds of cyclists got on their saddles to take part in On Yer Bike.

More than 500 turned up at the start to pedal along the two routes, raising money for good causes.

Entry to On Yer Bike costs £10 (minimum) for adults, and £3 for under 16s.

Entries can be made online at stleonardsrotary.org or application forms are available through Deeks Evans, 36 Cambridge Road, Hastings and at cycle shops in the town.
