Barriers were put in place by East Sussex County Council following continued slippage of the ground.

The county council has recently extended its footpath closure orders for a further 18 months as the land is still slipping.

Councillor Warren Davies, Hastings Borough Council’s lead member for environment, said: “Earlier this year the council installed a wooden post and rail barrier which regularly fell victim to criminal damage.

“As a barrier is required a new, stronger metal barrier was put in place of the wooden one, and this has now also been vandalised and cut.

“We are very concerned that someone is intent on putting the public in danger by this type of criminal activity.

“We are appealing to the public for help. If anyone has any information about this criminal damage we urge them to contact the police on the non-emergency line 101 or email [email protected] or Hastings Borough Council at [email protected].”
