Safety horror of Durrington Hill

THE fight is on to prevent Durrington Hill in Worthing from being used as a rat-run to avoid heavy traffic on the A27.

Residents also want to stop heavy lorries tearing down the narrow country lane ingoring weight restrictions.

Matters came to a head after a champion British short haired cat, Hector, was hit by a car on on January 10 and left to crawl up a driveway and die. Residents believe that next time it could be a child that is killed.

Tony and Carole Smith, owners of Hector, were spurred on by their tragedy to call a meeting of residents at their home on Saturday morning, attracting a huge turnout.

A campaign was launched to restore Durrington Hill to a safe and calm area.
