Safety work to start on A27

WORK will begin to improve the traffic signals on the A27 Upper Brighton Road and make crossing safer for pedestrians on June 21

The work will affect a 150m stretch of carriageway between Upper Brighton Road and Lyons Way and a 50m stretch on the Old Upper Brighton Road northbound.

It will take around 13 weeks to complete and work will be carried out between 9.30am and 4.00pm.

The Highways Agency said lane closures would be necessary throughout the work with traffic lights in operation. The Old Upper Brighton Road will also be closed for one day and a diversion route will be put in place.

Ing Fischer, Highways Agency route manager, said: "The works will reduce congestion on the northbound approach to the A27 and make it safer for pedestrians to cross the old Upper Brighton Road.

"During the work, motorists are advised to allow extra time or vary their journeys if possible."
