Sainbury's special relationship to end after fun day's last hurrah

BEXHILL'S branch of Sainsbury's is known for its community efforts.And the Buckhurst Road store has contributed another £370 to its charity of the year, the 1066 Specials, through a fun day.

Stalls sold bric-a-brac and Dave Dickens-Smith, of the Bexhill 100 Motoring Club, stuffed his vintage blue mini, originally made in Bexhill, with 130 balloons and offered up a 25 taxi voucher for the best estimate of their number.

Jean Harris, who handles communications for the store, dressed as Laurel for the day, opposite Betty McCulloch's Hardy.

She said: "It was a bit quieter than sometimes, but I think that's because we didn't have our cake stall. Bexhill folk like their cake stalls.

"But the staff made it better than it could have been. They all joined in."

Sainsbury's Bexhill will soon announce its charity of the year for 2010/11.
