The Sainsbury’s Local store planned for the area is subject to the supermarket giant obtaining planning permission for its second premises in the town.

There is no official opening date, but a spokesperson for the supermarket said Sainsbury’s hopes to open in 2016.

The spokesperson said: “The owner of Horsham Floorings and Furnishings has planning permission for an extension, which we are taking on.

“He is then building at the back and relocating his business there.

“The planning application that we have submitted is for shop front, advert and a cash machine.”

The store would provide 20 to 25 jobs, the majority of which will go to local people, the spokesperson added.

Sainsbury’s Locals are designed to meet the everyday top up shopping needs of residents who live within walking distance of the store.

They offer a range of fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products, bakery goods, drinks, snacks and other convenience products. They tend to trade from 7am to 11pm.

The store will be the second owned by Sainsbury’s in the town, in addition to the larger store in the town centre.
